Coffee & Selection

How do your espresso and filter roasts differ?

Our filter coffees are roasted light to medium to preserve the beans’ natural aromas, resulting in a clean and vibrant cup.
Espresso roasts, on the other hand, are roasted a bit longer to develop more sweetness and body — creating a rich, full cup with deeper roast notes and a smooth, velvety texture.

Which roast do you recommend for each brewing method?

Coffee is a matter of taste. We roast our beans for specific brewing methods in mind.
For filter roasts, we recommend brewing methods such as Hario V60, Chemex, Origami, or with Aeropress and French Press.
For espresso roasts, we suggest using a portafilter machine, moka pot, or fully automatic machine.
That said — if you enjoy fruity and vibrant flavors, feel free to use a filter roast for espresso too :)

Can I also buy ground coffee?

Our coffees are available as whole beans in our shop, but we’re happy to grind them fresh for your preferred brewing method.

How can I find out which coffee I like best?

The colors on our labels are inspired by the Coffee Taster’s Flavor Wheel and represent the flavor profiles of each coffees. Bright, vibrant colors suggest fruity and complex aromas, while brown, muted shades point to more classic, chocolatey notes. In our shop, you can find the coffees categorized as " Classic - chocolatey " or " Modern - fruity - funky ", making it easy to discover the flavor style that suits you best. This way, you can quickly find (and remember!) the coffees that match your personal taste.

What if I don’t like the coffee?

That can happen — taste is personal! While we don’t offer returns on coffee, we recommend sharing it with a friend or, if possible, donating it.
If you’re really not happy, just send us an email — we’ll do our best to find a solution that works for you. Feel free to stop by our roastery beforehand. Here you can drink all our coffees, as long as they are in stock.

Do you add flavors to the coffee?

Our coffees are completely natural – with no added flavors or additives. The taste comes solely from the coffee itself and is influenced by many factors such as variety, cultivation, ripeness, processing, and roasting.
The notes you see on our labels — like pineapple, almond, or plum — are simply tasting descriptors that help describe the sensory profile of the coffee. We determine these flavor notes when selecting our green coffees and during quality control after roasting — much like in a wine tasting.

How long does the coffee stay fresh?

The legal minimum shelf life for roasted coffee in Germany is 24 months, but we state a best-before date of one year from the roast date on our bags.
For the best flavor experience, we recommend enjoying your coffee within six months, as the aromas naturally fade over time.
Our coffee bags feature a one-way valve and a resealable zip closure, allowing the beans to release gases while keeping oxygen out. To preserve freshness, store your coffee in a cool, dark place.
If you’re buying ground coffee, keep in mind that it loses its aroma more quickly — it’s best to use it within one month. Always store it in the original bag, avoid repackaging, and try not to shake the bag unnecessarily.

How much coffee can I brew with 250g of coffee beans?

We recommend a brewing ratio of about 60g per liter of water. If you prefer your coffee stronger, use 70g per liter.
With 250g of coffee beans, you can brew about 1 cup of coffee every day for about 2 weeks. With 500g of coffee, you can get about 4 weeks out of one cup per day.

A few months ago, I bought a specific coffee — but I can’t find it in your selection anymore!

Coffee is a seasonal product — harvest times vary depending on region, altitude, and variety.
We only purchase a limited amount of green coffee from each lot, which we roast and sell over a specific period. Once that batch is gone, the coffee is unfortunately no longer available.Even if we source from the same region the following year, factors like climate, ripeness, and processing can influence the harvest — meaning the flavor profile might change, and some notes may not return.
If you discover a coffee you truly love, it’s best to grab an extra bag while it’s still available :)

My order was marked as delivered, but I haven't received it.

It can happen that a parcel is marked as delivered but hasn’t actually arrived yet. In most cases it’s just been misdirected and turns up shortly after.

Please check first:

  • Ask your neighbors or your mail carrier if the parcel was left with them.
  • Check whether it was delivered to another location (e.g., a nearby shop or parcel shop/locker).
  • Note: Sometimes a shipment is scanned as “delivered” and is actually delivered the next day.

Once we hand your order to the carrier, we no longer receive additional tracking details and the final delivery is in the carrier’s hands. If the parcel still hasn’t shown up after 2 days, please initiate a search request:

Hermes: Start a shipment search (Sendungsrecherche ) no earlier than 5 business days after the supposed delivery.
DHL: Start an investigation (Nachforschungsauftrag) after 2 days of waiting.
Also email us at post@cabanaroasters.de with your order number so we can assist.
