Arnulfo Leguizamo is a true legend in the Colombian coffee world. For decades, he has shaped the specialty coffee scene in Huila with his experience, innovative spirit, and tireless dedication.
As a member of Asociación Los Naranjos, a cooperative of around 40 families, he not only shares his knowledge but also sets standards time and again with his own microlots.
Together with his son Diego, a trained coffee cupper, Arnulfo runs Finca El Faldón and Finca La Primavera. The latter brought him his international breakthrough in 2011: With his Cup of Excellence winning coffee, he achieved a then-historic record price for Colombian coffee – $45 per lb.
Why this coffee is special: This Sidra from Arnulfo and Diego Leguizamo combines the best of both worlds: the experience of an internationally renowned coffee family and the allure of a rare, almost mystical variety. Every cup tells a story of dedication, innovation, and passion – bringing a piece of Colombian coffee culture directly to your cup.
The El Faldón and La Primavera estates are nestled in the verdant hills near the city of San Agustín in the Huila Department, one of Colombia's most renowned coffee-growing regions. Here, ideal conditions prevail: fertile volcanic soils, altitudes exceeding 1,700 meters, and a temperate climate. In addition to Caturra, rare varieties such as this Sidra, Pink Bourbon, and Geisha are cultivated. The coffee cherries are harvested only when fully ripe, pulped on the same day, and then fermented in open tanks or containers for 12–36 hours. After fermentation, they are washed and gently dried.
The Sidra variety remains shrouded in mystery. It is believed to have originated in Ecuador, in the Pichincha province, likely through crosses between Bourbon and Ethiopian landrace varieties. Some genetic analyses suggest a strong relationship with Ethiopian varieties. Sidra is characterized by its pronounced sweetness, fruity acidity, and floral complexity – qualities that make it a fascinating variety.
